So how did it all unfold?
Supposedly it all started on Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show. McGregor was asked if would ever fight Mayweather and he responded with a simple “DUH.” “If you’re asking would I like to fight Floyd Mayweather — I mean, who would not like to dance around the ring for $180 million?” McGregor said. Wow, a bold statement I could see why Mayweather may have had his feathers ruffled a bit.
A few weeks later while discussing fellow boxer Andre Ward and the lack of attention he’s received despite his immense talent, Mayweather used McGregor and former UFC champ Ronda Rousey as examples of how racism is still pervasive in sports.
In response, McGregor fired back at Mayweather on Instagram with a post stating he would never use race in his success.
Later the tabloids started to print that a Mayweather McGregor fight was imminent. Mayweather later admitted to starting the rumors.
After a social media battle, Mayweather tells McGregor he would fight him for 50 million dollars. In response, McGregor starts #MoneyMcGregorWhatsFloydGonnaDo? After a bunch of continued drama, and fighting over money, McGregor goes to Vegas to get his boxing license, and now here we are the bout of the century!
